Description:Our research can be divided into three sections: With the help of a completely new method for the combinatorial synthesis of molecule libraries, we aim at realizing the generation of high-complexity peptide arrays for diagnostic purposes and the functional analysis of proteins ('peptide arrays'), as well as the high-throughput screening for novel bioinorganic catalysts ('screening for catalysts'). This objective is particularly pursued by Dr. Stadler's BMBF Junior Research Group in Nanotechnology (Grant No. 03N8710). These two projects are based on so-called 'monomer particles or amino acid particles', which can be charged triboelectrically and therefore addressed by means of defined charge patterns onto surfaces. Defined charge patterns are usually generated in laser printers and with an array of electrodes on the surface of a CMOS chip, respectively. The solid micro particles for combinatorial synthesis should enable us to achieve molecular diversities not realized yet. In collaboration with Dr. Gerhard Moldenhauer from the DKFZ division "Molecular Immunology", the third project targets the generation of hybridoma libraries. Hybridoma cells produce monoclonal antibodies, which are indispensable research tools and diagnostic agents. Moreover, most of the newly approved therapeutic agents consist of humanized monoclonal (hybridoma) antibodies. With the help of corresponding hybridoma libraries, we finally aim at speeding and simplifying the screening for monoclonal antibodies.
